¿TECNOLOGÍA IMPOSIBLE EN EL ANTIGUO EGIPTO? LOS RELIEVES DE ABIDOS Y LOS LÍMITES DE LA INTERPRETACIÓN ARQUEOLÓGICA
Este capítulo analiza críticamente los controvertidos relieves del templo de Seti I en Abidos, cuyas formas han sido interpretadas popularmente como representaciones de un helicóptero y otros vehículos modernos. El análisis se organiza en tres ejes: el contexto arqueológico y epigráfico de las inscripciones; el proceso de superposición que permite explicar las figuras mediante un palimpsesto monumental; y los problemas epistemológicos derivados de proyectar categorías tecnológicas contemporáneas sobre imágenes antiguas. Metodológicamente, se sustenta en una revisión de alcance de literatura especializada, desarrollada desde un enfoque cualitativo-interpretativo y mediante un diseño narrativo de tópico. Se sostiene que las formas de Abidos no constituyen evidencia de tecnologías anacrónicas, sino un caso particularmente ilustrativo de cómo la alteración material, la percepción visual y la descontextualización pueden generar interpretaciones arqueológicas aparentemente extraordinarias. En conclusión, el caso de Abidos evidencia la importancia de contextualizar las anomalías antes de atribuirles un significado histórico. Su estudio reafirma que la interpretación arqueológica debe sustentarse en evidencias convergentes y contrastables, más allá de semejanzas visuales condicionadas por categorías actuales.

Abstract:
This chapter critically analyzes the controversial reliefs in the Temple of Seti I at Abydos, the forms of which have been popularly interpreted as depictions of a helicopter and other modern vehicles. The analysis is structured around three key aspects: the archaeological and epigraphic context of the inscriptions; the process of superimposition, which explains the figures as a monumental palimpsest; and the epistemological issues arising from projecting contemporary technological categories onto ancient images. Methodologically, the study is grounded in a scoping review of specialized literature, employing a qualitative-interpretative approach and a narrative-topical design. It argues that the forms at Abydos do not constitute evidence of anachronistic technologies but rather serve as a particularly illustrative case of how material alteration, visual perception, and decontextualization can give rise to seemingly extraordinary archaeological interpretations. In conclusion, the Abydos case highlights the importance of contextualizing anomalies before assigning them historical significance. The study reaffirms that archaeological interpretation must be based on convergent and verifiable evidence, rather than on visual resemblances shaped by modern categories.
