  • Abstract:

School coexistence is usually approached through its observable manifestations, such as behaviours, conflicts and institutional indicators, which relegates the processes through which communities construct the meanings that guide their ways of living together. Addressing this gap, this chapter proposes the Multilevel Heuristic Theoretical Model of the Social Construction of Meaning, aimed at explaining how the meaning that sustains school coexistence is produced, stabilised and transformed. Through a theoretical synthesis, the model articulates five interdependent levels, namely personal narratives, social representations, social imaginaries, cultural myths, and philosophical and epistemological foundations, and incorporates otherness (alterity) as a cross-cutting ethical axis. Its contribution lies not in adding isolated referents, but in integrating them into a single explanation, which differs from context-based multilevel models and from approaches that describe coexistence through its dimensions. As the methodological translation of the model, Alteridad Method is presented, articulating Narrative Therapy and the Solution-Focused Approach within an architecture of collaborative conversations oriented towards narrative resignification and the participatory construction of solutions. The chapter presents the foundations of the model, illustrates its application, and discusses its limitations and projections. It is a conceptual proposal, pending empirical validation, whose implications point to the development of more inclusive and reflective educational communities, capable of collaboratively reconstructing the meanings that guide their relationships, identities and practices.
