  • Abstract:

Educational inclusion is one of the major challenges facing contemporary school systems, particularly when the aim is to ensure not only students’ access to and continued participation in education, but also their meaningful engagement, learning, and well-being. In Chile, inclusion policies have primarily focused on special educational needs. Although this approach has led to significant progress in access to specialized support, it has also perpetuated tensions associated with deficit-oriented understandings of diversity. In this context, mental health is of fundamental importance, as experiences of anxiety, stress, grief, isolation, discrimination, and overload may affect students, teachers, and other members of the educational community. This chapter examines the relationship between mental health and educational inclusion from a biopsychosocial and ecological perspective, integrating international evidence with research conducted in the Chilean context. It addresses dimensions such as neurodiversity, giftedness, collaborative work, co-teaching, time management, educational leadership, and school well-being. The chapter argues for the need to advance toward a conception of inclusion that moves beyond a logic focused exclusively on diagnoses and individual difficulties, promoting institutional transformations aimed at fostering participation, collaboration, recognition of diversity, and the development of psychologically healthy educational communities.
