Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the mapping of productive and biocultural vocations among rural youth in the Inspection of Santa Elena (Cauca), as a strategy for school retention and the prevention of youth dropout. Based on a qualitative methodology rooted in Gamified Social Mapping and sentipensante sociology, participatory workshops were conducted with students and teachers from rural school branches in the area (San Bernardo, El Rosal, San Miguel, among others). Findings demonstrate that despite structural territorial tensions—such as deteriorated road networks and severe winter conditions, community well-being nodes (sports fields, lookouts, school gardens, and social gathering spaces) serve as devices for local attachment and social cohesion. Furthermore, a significant potential was identified in local agro-industrial value chains, primarily linked to coffee processing, sugarcane panela, beekeeping, and pedagogical gardens. The study concludes that redefining the rural school as a "living lab" enables the integration of technical agricultural knowledge with community agritourism and sustainable environmental education. This convergence transforms the educational space into a scenario of resistance and endogenous development, providing young people with tangible life, employment, and belonging opportunities within their territory.
