Abstract: Antibiotic resistance has become a globally threatening health problem due to its considerable increase, representing one of the greatest concerns and challenges for public health worldwide. The aim of this article is to analyze the main causes, consequences, and strategies related to antibiotic resistance. This study was conducted through qualitative research using a narrative review, in which scientific literature was analyzed. The sources were obtained using the following search equation: " Drug Resistance, Microbial AND Added Impact AND Public Health, applied in the Scielo and Google Scholar databases. The results obtained showed that antimicrobial resistance has a high impact, with several causes, the most notable being the misuse of antibiotics and improper medical prescriptions. This leads to highly detrimental health consequences, such as increased hospitalizations, a higher risk of complications, and, consequently, increased mortality. Therefore, it is essential to implement prevention strategies, such as improved training for healthcare professionals, home visits to monitor therapeutic adherence, among others. In conclusion, antibiotic resistance is a serious and growing problem, making it crucial to take action against this issue, starting with the implementation of preventive measures.
