Abstract:
Sowings in the Toluca Valley are characterized by being on tip irrigation, seasonal and residual moisture, they are done at a depth of 15 to 20 cm, which requires the genotypes to have high vigor to germinate, emerge and maintain plant growth while the rainfall is established, regularly in the month of May. The objective of the work was to evaluate the genotype-environment interaction through four sowing dates in 14 maize genotypes, and to define the interdependence of the variables evaluated. The genotypes were evaluated using a randomized complete block design, and combined analysis of variance across environments, principal component analysis, genotype-by-environment interaction analysis using the SREG model, and by factor analysis were performed. Planting dates and genotypes were established in a randomized complete block design and combined analyses of variance across environments, principal component analysis, genotype-environment interaction analysis with the SREG model, and factor analysis were performed. The highest yields were observed under irrigation (6.7 t ha-1) and rainfed conditions (6.0 t ha-1). Yield was found to be closely interdependent with number of kernels per row, healthy ears, grain percentage, ear length, number of healthy ears and number of plants harvested. Among evaluated genotypes, H-52, its female single cross (M43 x M44), and M60 x M61 showed the highest yields (10.9, 9.1, and 9.0 t ha -1 , respectively); furthermore exhibited the greatest adaptability, as they were the highest-yielding genotypes across four planting dates and outperformed the local variety, which yielded 7.7 t ha-1. The genotype with lowest yield and adaptation was Bajio Synthetic variety.
