  • Abstract:

Integrating sustainability from the early stages of industrial projects has proven that, rather than representing additional costs, it can generate savings in time, money, and other resources. This approach is particularly critical during the planning stage, where most decisions influencing the project’s entire life cycle are made. Early integration helps prevent unforeseen expenses and enables the development of projects that mitigate or compensate for environmental risks arising from their own operation. This study presents a descriptive exploratory approach aimed at supporting the integration of tools from industrial engineering, auditing, management, and environmental impact assessment, such as simplified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a modified Leopold Environmental Impact Matrix, and engineering‑based resource optimization techniques. The research is of a basic and applied nature, with a documentary and contextual scope, and focuses on the development of a methodological framework that combines industrial engineering practice, environmental impact assessment, and sustainable management. The results demonstrate that sustainability is not a constraint on development, but rather a driver of innovation and competitiveness. This work represents the first stage of the project of the same name, submitted to the 2026 Call for Scientific, Humanistic, Technological Development and Innovation Research Projects of the Tecnológico Nacional de México.
