  • Abstract:

This work describes the process of design and simulation of a system that uses a micro turbine to generate electricity, in this way, it is possible to take advantage of the kinetic energy of the water from the pumping stations of the drinking water supplier company of the city of Quito (EPMAPS). The energy generated can be used to self-supply the control system of these facilities, which ensures a safe and uninterrupted power supply to the station, which guarantees continuous operation with minimal CO2 emissions. First, the mechanical parameters of the station were determined to quantify the electrical power that can be generated, with the value of the mechanical energy and the characteristics of the installation, the most suitable turbine for this application was chosen. Then, the hydraulic and electrical design was carried out, which allows the pumping station to be powered either with the energy of the electric grid or the hydraulic generation system. Finally, the simulation of the hydraulic system was carried out using CAE software and finite element analysis (FEA) to validate the structural resistance and the dynamic analysis of the system, in this way the data obtained in the design stage were corroborated.
