  • Abstract:

The use of AI-based chatbots is becoming established as a form of digital interaction with a direct impact on service delivery. In this context, the AI-powered chatbot market is projected to reach approximately USD 58 billion by 2030, with an annual growth rate above 25% [1]. The main objective of this study is therefore to analyze the factors that most strongly influence tourists’ adoption of chatbots in order to identify and estimate their effects on tourists’ attitude (ATT) toward chatbot use. A structural equation model is proposed that integrates social influence (SI), experience (EXP), perceived security (SEC), perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), and attitude (ATT). The model tests thirteen hypotheses of positive effects. Empirical evidence was obtained through a questionnaire administered to 186 participants, and estimation was carried out using PLS-SEM as an approach suitable for predictive models [2]. The results provide empirical support for most of the proposed relationships, while H5 and H9 are not confirmed because they do not reach statistically significant values. The accepted relationships suggest an adoption process in which tourists’ experience acts as a central driver by reinforcing attitude and improving perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Social influence also helps consolidate experience and strengthens key perceptions related to security and usefulness, indicating that the social environment functions as a mechanism for validating the channel. At the same time, perceived security plays a structuring role by influencing attitude and reinforcing instrumental perceptions of the system. Attitude is also strengthened by both perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, showing that tourists’ judgments combine assessments of effort and functional value. Overall, the SEM model indicates that tourists’ attitudes toward chatbot use are determined primarily by prior experience and perceived security, together with the functional evaluation of the system. These results suggest that chatbot design in tourism should prioritize verifiable security mechanisms and service-value improvements in order to strengthen perceived usefulness and consolidate adoption
