Abstract:
This research describes the situations, contexts, and working characteristics of three Rural Learning Communities (CACs) in the Yope and Amuzgo regions: “Sembradores Yopes” in San Marcos, ”Cultivando el Campo” in Tecoanapa, and “Cotón Amuzgo” in Xochistlahuaca, in the Costa Chica region of Guerrero, Mexico. The study was evaluated using general systems theory and the criteria outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda, assessing the inception, progress, and scope of the “Sembrando Vida” program. The research was qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, and cross-sectional; structured interviews were conducted, and the groups’ achievements were analyzed in relation to the production of fruit and timber trees, agroecological practices, and community participation; it was found that there is a system for producing and processing fruit for commercial sale, that participants have learned to reforest community water sources, and that they maintain close ties with student groups and the local population in environmental initiatives. We can say that the soil quality on their plots has improved through the use of humus and California earthworm castings, and the production of timber and fruit trees has increased, as they set a production goal of 1,000 trees per year and all have exceeded this target by 30 percent; they have learned to share traditional and technical knowledge and have worked collaboratively among Men and women have worked collaboratively.
