EFFECT OF GIBBERELLIC ACID AND SILVER NITRATE ON THE GERMINATION OF PINUS PSEUDOSTROBUS LINDL.

Pinus pseudostrobus Lindl. is a forest species of great economic importance, but it is in the Red List of Threatened Species, so it is necessary to have effective methods for the massive propagation of its seeds, which have a limited germination capacity. For this reason, it was proposed to carry out the present work to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of different treatments with silver nitrate (AgNO3) and gibberellic acid (GA3) in the in vitro germination of seeds of this species. For this purpose, a completely randomized design was established with four replicates and eight treatments (TG1=3mgL-1GA3, TG2=3mgL-1GA3-50mgL-1AgNO3, TG3=3mgL-1GA3-75mgL-1AgNO3,TG4=3mgL-1GA3-100mgL-1AgNO3,TG5=50mgL-1AgNO3, TG6=75mgL-1AgNO3, TG7=100mgL-1AgNO3, TG8=control) on McCown's Woody Plant basal medium, where a total of 256 embryos were seeded. After 2 weeks of culture, the percentage and speed of germination were determined for each treatment, among other germination indices. The results showed that the treatments with AgNO₃ reduced the necrosis, but hurt seed germination, unlike what was observed with treatments TG1, TG2, and TG3 with GA3, which showed higher percentages (65-69%) than what was observed in the control treatment (48.44%). In conclusion, the use of 3 mg L-1 of GA3 is useful to increase the germination capacity in vitro and enhance the growth of this valuable species.
