Abstract:
Entrepreneurial intention has been widely recognized as an essential precursor in the process of creating new ventures. At the individual level, a strong entrepreneurial intention not only increases the likelihood of engaging in entrepreneurship, but also shapes how people perceive opportunities, deal with uncertainty, and respond to inhibiting factors [1]. Therefore, identifying the determinants of entrepreneurial intention is key to understanding the start-up process and the success of entrepreneurial activities. Although recent literature has made considerable progress in analyzing the determinants of entrepreneurial intention, important gaps remain and require further attention. In this regard, [2] highlight the need to move toward results that not only examine the direct effects of different factors, but also explore the conditions under which those factors have a greater or lesser impact on the intention to undertake entrepreneurial activity. From this perspective, our study proposes that the entrepreneurial context, understood as the cultural, institutional, and social environment in which the individual operates, moderates the relationship between individual motivations and the expression of entrepreneurial intention. This approach advances a more integrative view by recognizing that entrepreneurial action does not depend exclusively on personal factors, but is also the product of dynamic interactions with the environment that may strengthen or limit their influence. Moreover, much of the existing research is conducted from a national perspective, overlooking the fact that the local dimension constitutes a particularly relevant unit of analysis for understanding entrepreneurial dynamics [3]. Regions differ across multiple dimensions, from institutional and economic structures to regulatory frameworks and social networks, all of which directly affect the perception of opportunities, access to resources, and assessment of the risks associated with entrepreneurship. Thus, approaching the entrepreneurial phenomenon from a perspective closer to the individual’s environment makes it possible to capture the complexity of this process more accurately. In this context, the present study aims to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between individual factors and entrepreneurial intention, while also analyzing how this relationship may be conditioned by the entrepreneurial context. To this end, GEM data are used to develop a logistic regression model applied to a representative sample from the Castilla-La Mancha region.
