Abstract: Health systems around the world are facing the challenge of better integrating evidence-based practices into the provision of care in order to increase the quality and effectiveness of care, specifically for families. Growing evidence and empirical insights are encouraging about the usefulness and effectiveness of involving and supporting families during their life cycle, with Family Nursing relying on models to support it. Thus, the Calgary Model of Family Assessment and Intervention (MCAIF) emerged, which allows families to be investigated taking into account three dimensions: structural, developmental and functional. Positive attitudes towards family involvement in the family nurse's professional practice are crucial to improving the involvement and collaboration of each family member, taking into account their functional structure. Objectives: The general objective of this study was to assess, identify the altered areas of the family and carry out an intervention plan with the aim of minimising the problems identified. Methodology: A case study (N=3 families) was used as the methodological strategy and the MCAIF as the theoretical framework. The study was carried out in the context of a Personalised Health Care Unit (UCSP) and the data was collected through interviews with the families and analysis of the data contained in the family nurse's computer registration applications. The application of the model enabled family analyses to be carried out, identifying the main items relating to structure (internal and external - Genogram and Ecomap), development (Duvall Life Cycle) and functioning (Family APGAR). The data obtained was analysed, and nursing diagnoses and proposed interventions were identified and drawn up according to the Model. Results: The families had compromised communication and family socialisation in common; in view of this assessment (nursing diagnosis), interventions were outlined for conflict management, resulting from compromised communication (its absence and the way it is communicated), care and teaching for the family in order to optimise the physical environment, always taking into account the resources and competences of each family and the community. Conclusion: This study confirms that the application of the MCAIF provides an in-depth approach to family structure, development and functioning, and is an undeniable and effective tool for identifying diagnoses and interventions in the family. Given the diagnoses, we intervened, always counting on the involvement of families, respecting their values and beliefs. Early intervention has the potential to promote autonomy and family functioning.
