AROUCA, DESTINO TURÍSTICO SUSTENTÁVEL: EXEMPLO DE INOVAÇÃO E BOAS PRÁTICAS
O turismo sustentável é aquele que tem em conta os impactos económicos, sociais e ambientais, atuais e futuros da atividade e o equilíbrio entre estes três pilares. Para alcançar a sustentabilidade do destino, particularmente rural, as questões relativas à inovação são essenciais. Assim, o presente artigo visa discutir os aspetos referentes à sustentabilidade e inovação, num destino turístico rural – Arouca (Portugal). A escolha deste destino como exemplo de boas práticas sustentáveis, deve-se ao facto de fazer parte do Top 100 da Green Destinations, em dois anos consecutivos (2020-2021). A metodologia assenta da revisão de literatura e na consulta on-line de documentos sobre o destino turístico Arouca. Os resultados mostram que graças a medidas que entrelaçam a sustentabilidade e a inovação, o destino Arouca tem ganho uma notoriedade e projeção mundial, integrando um Geoparque Mundial da UNESCO – Arouca Geoparque. Para tal muito contribuem os recursos turísticos ambientais, culturais e construídos, com destaque para a maior ponte pedonal suspensa do mundo.

Abstract:
Sustainable tourism is one that fears the economic, social and environmental, current and future impacts of activities and the balance between these three pillars. To achieve the sustainability of the destination, particularly rural, the questions related to innovation are essential. Yet, this article aims to discuss the aspects related to sustainability and innovation, in a rural tourist destination – Arouca (Portugal). The choice of this destination as an example of good sustainable practices is due to the fact that it has been part of the Top 100 by Green Destinations, for two consecutive years (2020-2021). The methodology is based on the literature review and on-line documents on the Arouca tourist destination. The results show that thanks to measures that intertwine sustainability and innovation, the Arouca destination has gained worldwide notoriety and projection, integrating a UNESCO World Geopark – Arouca Geopark. To this, are essential the environmental, cultural and built tourism resources, with emphasis on the world's largest suspended pedestrian bridge.
