ANÁLISE DOS RESULTADOS DO PROGRAMA DE APOIO A ESTUDANTES FINALISTAS – MEDIDA DE COMBATE AO INSUCESSO ESCOLAR - NA ESCE/IPS
O presente trabalho descreve uma medida de combate ao insucesso escolar que foi realizada nas cinco Escolas do Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (IPS) e apresenta os resultados obtidos na Escola Superior de Ciências Empresariais (ESCE) do IPS. Esta medida surgiu em 2014/15, na sequência da constatação de que um número considerável de estudantes finalistas possuía um reduzido número de Unidades Curriculares (UC) para concluir o curso. Inicialmente, foi aplicada aos estudantes de licenciatura e mais tarde alargada aos estudantes dos Cursos Técnicos Superiores Profissionais (CTeSP) pois, para a conclusão dos seus estudos os estudantes teriam, em condições normais, de permanecer na Escola pelo menos mais um ano letivo.
Neste programa, que funciona em regime tutorial entre os meses de outubro e dezembro, os responsáveis e docentes das UC em causa têm a responsabilidade de elaborar e concretizar planos de acompanhamento dos estudantes inscritos nos vários ciclos de estudos, com a participação dos estudantes a que se destinam, nomeadamente na identificação das suas potencialidades e dificuldades. Pressupõe-se também que haja por parte dos estudantes uma definição e aceitação dos planos de trabalho que devem cumprir.
O presente trabalho analisa os resultados das quatro edições do Programa de Apoio a Estudantes Finalistas (PAEF) na ESCE, tendo por base as seguintes variáveis: número de estudantes aprovados, número de estudantes reprovados, número de estudantes não avaliados, classificação média obtida, tipo de atividades desenvolvidas durante o programa e grau de cumprimento dessas atividades. O estudo é elaborado por Unidade Curricular para cada um dos anos em estudo. O objetivo é perceber se existe algum tipo de relação/associação entre as variáveis em estudo, por forma a propor eventuais melhorias ao programa.

Abstract:
The present work describes a measure to combat school failure that took place in the five Schools of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) and presents the results obtained at the School of Business Administration (ESCE) of the IPS. This measure emerged in the school year 2014/2015, following the realization that a considerable number of final year students had a small number of Curricular Units (UC) to complete the course. Initially, it was applied to undergraduate students and later extended to students of the Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP). If this measure were not applied, in order to complete their studies students would have, under normal conditions, to remain at the School for at least one more academic year.
In this programme, which runs on a tutorial basis between the months of October and December, the heads and teachers of the UCs in question are responsible for drawing up and implementing monitoring plans for students enrolled in the various study cycles, with the participation of the students to whom are intended, namely in identifying their potential and difficulties. It is also assumed that students participate in the definition and accept the work plans they must fulfil.
The present work analyses the results of the four editions of the Support Program for Finalist Students (PAEF) at ESCE, based on the following variables: number of approved students, number of failed students, number of students not evaluated, average classification obtained, type of activities developed during the program and degree of fulfilment of these activities. The study is based on the Curricular Units for each of the years under study. The objective is to understand if there is any kind of relationship/association between the variables under study, in order to propose possible improvements to the program.
