ABUNDÂNCIA DE PEIXES TELEÓSTEOS EM UM MANGUEZAL DA RAPOSA, ILHA DE SÃO LUÍS, MARANHÃO, BRASIL
O principal objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a estrutura da associação de peixes teleósteos em um manguezal através da abundância e distribuição de frequência por classe de comprimento. A amostragem foi mensal, durante o período de agosto de 1999 a novembro de 2000. Foram coletados 10824 exemplares de peixes, representando 63 espécies pertencentes a 27 famílias. Mugil curema foi a espécie mais abundante em número e peso. Mugilidae foi a família mais abundante em número e peso, e Sciaenidae teve o maior número de espécies. A distribuição de frequência de comprimento dos exemplares capturados variou entre 42 a 955 mm. Todavia a maioria dos exemplares coletados foi constituída por indivíduos de pequeno porte, cerca de 98,50% mediram menos de 300 mm de comprimento total.

Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to analyze the assemblage structure of teleost fish in a mangrove forest through abundance and frequency distribution by length class. Sampling was conducted monthly from August 1999 to November 2000. A total of 10,824 fish specimens were collected, representing 63 species belonging to 27 families. Mugil curema was the most abundant species in terms of both number and weight. Mugilidae was the most abundant family in terms of both number and weight, and Sciaenidae had the largest number of species. The frequency distribution of length of the captured specimens ranged from 42 to 955 mm. However, the majority of the collected specimens were small individuals, with approximately 98.50% measuring less than 300 mm in total length.
