A IMPORTÂNCIA SOCIAL DA EDUCAÇÃO A DISTÂNCIA: UMA REDUNDÂNCIA NECESSÁRIA?
Neste capítulo de livro procuramos fazer uma breve reflexão sobre o debate da importância da Educação a Distância diante da realidade social brasileira que continua a aprofundar as diferenças de acesso aos bens comuns da sociedade, dentre eles, a educação, um campo das ciências sociais e humanas. Para tanto, somos motivados a compreender se a Educação a Distância poderá ser uma modalidade transformadora da realidade socioeconômica de expressiva parcela da população brasileira, procurando ainda indagar sobre se poderá traduzir uma redundância necessária. Assim, buscamos conceituar significados da Educação a Distância e confrontá-los com o neoliberalismo contemporâneo, ou seja, mais especificamente, perspetivamos a Educação a Distância sob os seguintes três prismas: novas tecnologias, questão legal, modelo econômico. Conclui-se, através da nossa reflexão, embasada teoricamente e em normativos legais, que embora a Educação a Distância permita atender ao preconizado na Constituição no Brasil, a sua importância social emerge como redundância necessária. Ademais, e numa clara alusão ao título da coleção que integra este texto, inspira-nos a mais Estudos para uma Visão Holística da Sociedade.

Abstract:
In this book chapter, we aim at reflecting about the debate on the importance of Distance Education in the face of the Brazilian social reality, which continues to deepen the differences in access to the common goods of society, including education, a field of social and human sciences. Therefore, we are motivated to understand whether Distance Education can be a modality that transforms the socioeconomic reality of a significant portion of the Brazilian population, searching to inquire about whether it can translate a necessary redundancy. Thus, we seek to conceptualize the meanings of Distance Education and confront them with contemporary neoliberalism, that is, more specifically, we look at Distance Education from the following three perspectives: new technologies, legal issue, economic model. Through our reflection, grounded theoretically and in legal norms, we can conclude that although Distance Education allows at meeting the requirements of the Constitution in Brazil, its social importance emerges as a necessary redundancy. Furthermore, and in a clear allusion to the title of the collection that comprises this text, it inspires us to advance for further Studies for a Holistic Vision of Society.
