  • Abstract:

This essay proposes an ontological and metaphysical understanding of education based on the notions of katéchon, natality, phronesis, and care, articulating them with Service-Learning in higher education. Education is conceived as a responsibility for the world, in which the Master assumes the role of presenting, preserving, and transmitting a cultural heritage that enables the Disciple to develop autonomy and the capacity for intervention. Drawing on authors such as Hannah Arendt, Martin Heidegger, Aristotle, Emmanuel Levinas, Martin Buber, George Steiner, Olivier Reboul, and Georges Gusdorf, the essay examines the relationship between technical knowledge, practical wisdom, alterity, care, and freedom. It argues that education should not be reduced to the acquisition of technical competencies but should constitute an ethical praxis of preserving and renewing the world. Within this framework, Service-Learning connects knowledge, experience, and responsibility, enabling the Disciple to become an agent of care and transformation of reality.
