A ADOLESCÊNCIA E A RELAÇÃO ENTRE PAIS E FILHOS NO SÉCULO XXI: UM ESTUDO QUALITATIVO
Este estudo pretendeu compreender a adolescência e relação entre pais e filhos nesta etapa de vida no século XXI. Para isso foram utilizados focus group, em que participaram 13 famílias. Através de uma nova metodologia, o Focus Group Circular, pais e filhos foram convidados a refletir sobre os seus pontos de vista. Os resultados encontrados permitiram verificar a existência de uma conceção da adolescência tardia e de um período de vida não conflituoso. Pais e filhos destacam sob pontos de vista diferentes, a iniciação sexual, a influência do grupo de pares e os perigos da internet como as dificuldades e desafios vivenciados nesta etapa. O conflito parece ter sido substituído pelo diálogo, as relações tornaram-se cada vez mais horizontais, nas quais pais e filhos se protegem e se controlam mutuamente. A nova metodologia permitiu a alteração de algumas opiniões, tanto de pais como de filhos, sobre determinadas práticas parentais. No final, são discutidos estes resultados à luz da literatura e são apontadas as limitações e potencialidades desta investigação.

Abstract:
This study intended to understand the adolescence and the relationship between parents and children in this particular development stage at the XXI century. For this purpose, focus groups sessions were performed with 13 families. Through a new methodology, the Circular Focus Group, parents and adolescents were asked to reflect on each other’s the views. The findings revealed the existence of a conception of adolescence as a period that happens increasingly later and as a non-confrontational period. Parents and their children highlighted, the sexual initiation, the peers influence and the dangers of internet as difficulties and challenges of this life stage. The conflict seems to be replaced by dialogue, the relationships become increasingly more horizontal wherein parents and adolescents protect and control each other. The new methodology allowed, parents and children, to change some opinions on specific parenting practices. In the end, these results are discussed, focusing the literature, identifying the limitations and potentials of this research.
